The Wait Was So Worth it…
After 10, 11, 12 wonderful years, two kids, one global pandemic, and more adventures than we can count, we’re FINALLY getting married! Life is obviously a little too simple for us, so we like to needlessly complicate things. As such, we’ve decided to get married in Croatia (because, why not?), and are inviting our very favourite people along.
Though this is a wedding, we see it more as a party with our closest family and friends. We’ve found what we feel is a beautiful venue and we just want to fill it with all of our ride-or-dies, and really bring down the property value. Let's leave a dent, people! With any luck, some of us might even get deported (you know who you are). We’d be honoured for you to join us in “officially” starting our life together.
This site will give you all of the information you need, so be sure to bookmark it. That said, if there's anything more specific you need to know, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly via phone, text, or email.
The Wedding
The wedding will be taking place at Villa Polesini, in Porec (pronounced Po-Retch – because, y'know, you may want to take a cab or something at some point, and pronouncing it correctly would go a long way towards ensuring you don't get driven straight into the sea), on the Adriatic coast of Croatia’s Istrian peninsula.
The ceremony will be taking place
Thursday, August Eleventh
Two Thousand and Twenty Two
at Five Thirty in the Afternoon
Cocktails and other refreshments will be served beginning at five o'clock in the afternoon. There will be a toast after the ceremony accompanied by hors-d’œuvres. A proper seated dinner will be served starting at seven-thirty in the evening, followed by drinks and dancing, and capped-off with a midnight buffet and sweets table.
This being Croatia, there's always a chance of some light gunplay, and blood feuds erupting over the last slice of prosciutto. Please advise us of any allergies or dietary restrictions, and we will promptly ignore them.
The ferry linking the Isabella Island Hotel and Resort with the mainland runs every 30 minutes until 11 PM. As things will likely be running later on the day of the wedding, a ferry will be made available for guests heading back to the island after 11 PM. Simply alert one of the staff members, and they'll have a ferry come by.
Lastly, NO GIFTS! your presence is the best gift we could hope to receive but, should you insist on a gift, blood diamonds, gold bullion, and select cryptocurrency will be accepted.
Kindly RSVP for both the wedding and Barbeque (see below) by March 15th, 2022, and please be sure to include the number of people (adults and children) are included in your group.
The Venue:
Villa Polesini
Overlooking the beautiful Adriatic Sea, and providing dramatic sunset views, Villa Polesini is a fully-restored 19th century manor at the western tip of Porec’s Old Town peninsula originally built for the noble Polesina family.
The venue is just a few minutes' walk from the Valamar Riviera and Nicoletta hotels, and a tender/ferry ride and a short walk from the Valamar Isabella Island resort.
This stunning venue is located at:
Obala Marsala Tita 15, 52440
Porec, Croatia.
Additional details can be found here.
The Birthday Barbeque
As a special thank you to everyone for making the trip, and especially to celebrate Naia's ninth birthday, we're organizing a "Happy Birthday/Thank You/Farewell" Barbeque and everyone's invited. The party will be at the Isabella Island Hotel and Resort on Friday, August 12, 2022, beginning at seven o'clock in the evening, and running until 11 PM. The ferry linking the Isabella Island Hotel and Resort with the mainland runs every 30 minutes until 11 PM.
The menu will include various types of grilled meat, seafood, sides, and drinks all around. The vibe will be decidedly casual, and festive. If you've got a killer Hawaiian shirt you've been dying to break out, this is your moment, son.
The venue has requested an accurate head-count for this event, so kindly RSVP for both the wedding and Barbeque by March 15th, 2022, and please be sure to include the number of people (adults and children) in your group.
We're looking forward to seeing you all there!
Travel & Accommodations
Croatia, and the Istrian Peninsula
Croatia is located in south central Europe, running along the northeastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, across from Italy. The country is bordered on the north by Slovenia and Hungary, on the east by Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina, on the west by the Adriatic Sea, and to the southwest by Montenegro. Istria, one of Croatia's five regions, is located at the most northwestern part of of the country, on the Adriatic sea, bordering Slovenia, and across from Italy.
Getting to Poreč
The easiest way to get to Porec is to fly into the International Airport in Pula, and to hire a car or other ground transportation service from there (taxi, Uber, private transfer, etc.). Alternatively, we can also have a transfer to and from the airport organized for you if you're staying at one of the hotels. Porec is about a 45-minute drive north from the airport, depending on traffic. For those who will already be in Europe, there are also ferries from Italy, Slovenia, as well as other parts of Croatia.
Accommodations in Poreč
We will be staying at the Valamar Isabella Island Resort, which is a family-friendly resort hotel on its own island facing Villa Polesini, and is serviced by a 5-minute ferry ride to the mainland every 30 minutes.
There are three different Valamar hotels located near the wedding venue:
Porec itself has many affordable short-term rentals (AirBnB, VRBO, etc.) that can be easily booked online. If you'd like to book one of the Valamar hotels or the Isabella Island resort, please contact us directly, and we'll put you in touch with our planner.
Attractions
With it's stunning coastline and islands, and charming towns and villages, Croatia has become one of the world's most popular tourism and vacation destinations. Porec itself is a beautiful medieval town with restaurants, an aquarium, art galleries, beaches, etc. It’s also a short drive from Rovinj, a UNESCO-protected World Heritage Site is another beautiful medieval seaside town with many attractions. Motovun, a medieval hilltop town, is also a short drive away, and also makes for a great half-day trip.
For those looking for a little more of a city vibe, Pula is about an hour or so away by car and is also home to, among many other things, one of the oldest and best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world which is still in use today. A little south Pula is Cape Kamenjak, at the very tip of the Istrian Peninsula. Both can easily be done in the same say and have you back in Porec in time for dinner.
For a little extra bonus, there is also a daily ferry to Venice that leaves Porec early in the morning, and sails back in the mid-afternoon., giving you a few hours to explore and have a nice lunch. It arrives back in Porec in the evening, just in time for dinner.
Our Plans
We will be arriving in Porec on August 9th, and will be staying at the Isabella Island Resort until August 13th, at which point we will be setting off to see other parts of the country and visit family. We'll be in Porec a few days early, getting acclimated and tying up any loose ends. We have some half-day trips planned around the wedding to see some of the local sights. Guests are welcome to join us at their leisure.
Useful Information
It's important to note that Croatia is one of the world's most popular destinations. July and August are high-season for tourism, which means hotels and vacation rentals will get snapped up quite quickly. We would recommend booking flights and accommodations as quickly as possible.
Lastly, the Croatian coast is normally very hot during the summer months so, for the gentlemen, we recommend a light summer suit, or a pair of dress pants and a dress shirt for the wedding. Though the necktie was the gift we Croats gave to the world, none will be necessary for this event as we want everyone to be comfortable. Think Jean-Paul Belmondo, and you're there.
